“I’m glad to have the opportunity to make a small contribution to your recovery. It’s important for all of us that [UTMB], the city of Galveston, and all of southeast Texas make it through this setback. Please know that your efforts are supported by people throughout the state.”
~Anntoinette “Toni” Moore, UT Health Science Center at Tyler
“UTMB (collectively) is in my thoughts and prayers each day. I read the update on the internet every morning to see the progress. Hang in there!”
~Marsha Carol McNeely, MD, PhD
“My thoughts and prayers go out to you as your recover from the latest hurricane. I had the opportunity to work with your wonderful public relations staff…and your kind and caring physicians and medical students.”
~Susan Goldstein, Religion & Ethics News Weekly
"Dedicated UTMB staff who risked their own lives to remain at their post - this contribution is given in your name."
~ Irvin M. Cohen, M.D.
The following is a letter sent to us from our friends at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota:
“No one is big enough to be independent of others” -William Mayo
These simple words by William Mayo reflect the reason we feel so strongly regarding our obligation to the University of Texas-Medical Branch hurricane recovery effort. As UTMB alumni, we find ourselves far away but associated with an institution that shares the philosophy and commitment to patient care that was so clearly modeled and valued during our education. The beach of Galveston and the snowy wind-chills of Minnesota are vastly different, but the ties are strong in our Mayo faculty and staff who were once there. This bond is especially strong for Neurology alumni because of Dr. John Calverly, a Mayo graduate who spent his career as the Chairman of the Department of Neurology at UTMB.
Although this donation is a small gift in proportion to the need, it signifies our belief in the ability of UTMB to rebuild and become even stronger. In this time when our economy is in crisis, we pause to recognize that the mission of UTMB must be supported in whatever way we can – large or small. We hope that the support of those in the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester will demonstrate our belief in the future of UTMB and challenge all alumni to support this worthy institution and its medical mission.”
